Yeah, I write and eat with my left hand, so I call myself a lefty. But there are many spacial skills that I can only do with my right hand. Especially those involving fine motor abilities. They’re also things like the alphabet in sign language, 10-key number pad, and cutting with scissors that are expected to be done with the right hand. Handedness is not so cut and dry. It’s very complex.

Ambidexterity uber alles! ….No, I’m not ambidextrous, but I regard it as being an ideal condition. In nature, side-dominance is approximately even when it comes to left and right, but one side is typically favored. In humans, cross-dominance (such as left eyed/right hand) is relatively common.

Speaking of firearms, many of the more modern variety are designed with ambidexterity in mind. By the way, it’s interesting to note that God’s “left hand” is the hand of justice (or punishment) while His “right hand” is the hand of mercy. This is why the right hand is favored. Because justice requires destruction.

The root for left means “weak” or “withered.” They thought lefties were more susceptible to demon possession, more likely to be witches. The word sinister means left-handed. The word gauche is french for left. Many of us were burned at the stake as witches for being our left-handed quirky selves. My grandfather was forced to write with his right hand. We’ve come a long way, baby!
