The Czech Republic has condemned satellite provider Eutelsat for its actions. Here’s more from Prague. STORY: The Czech Minister for Human Rights is calling for an immediate resumption of NTD’s broadcast to Asia. [Dzamila Stehlikova, Czech Human Rights Minister]: “Limitation of freedom of expression, as we can witness now, in the case of shutting down the signal of an independent television, is a violation of the fundamental principles of the Olympic Movement, principle of non-discrimination and pursuit of human rights and also violation of public promises of the Chinese government, which promised that they will ensure total freedom of press during the Olympic games.” A Human Rights without Borders spokesperson recognizes that switching off NTD’s signal is not a just a technical issue. [Jana Novotna, Human Rights without Borders]: “Disconnection of the NTD signal was a calculated and premeditated action A politically motivated decision of Eutelsat in order to satisfy Beijing.” NTD’s satellite broadcast to Asia has been in the dark since June 16.
