2011 could have been named the year of the cell phone camera. Individuals everywhere have used their cell phones or other electronic devices to record interactions with the police. Some States have taken offense to that and have allowed police officers to arrest people for documenting events in public. In 2011, the First Circuit Court of Appeals out of Massachusetts ruled in favor of citizens first amendment rights to record in public. The Court has jurisdiction over MA, NH, RI, ME, and Puerto Rico. Here’s the ruling: www.ca1.uscourts.gov *** Some excerpts: “[I]s there a constitutionally protected right to videotape police carrying out their duties in public? Basic First Amendment principles, along with case law from this and other circuits, answer that question unambiguously in the affirmative.” “Glik filmed the defendant police officers in the Boston Common, the oldest city park in the United States and the apotheosis of a public forum. In such traditional public spaces, the rights of the state to limit the exercise of First Amendment activity are ‘sharply circumscribed.’” “[A] citizen’s right to film government officials, including law enforcement officers, in the discharge of their duties in a public space is a basic, vital, and well-established liberty safeguarded by the First Amendment.” “Gathering information about government officials in a form that can readily be disseminated to others serves a cardinal First Amendment interest in protecting and promoting ‘the …
ACTA – ‘The Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement’ is a proposed plurilateral agreement for the purpose of establishing international standards on intellectual property rights enforcement. ACTA would establish a new international legal framework that would create its “own governing body outside existing international institutions” such as – the World Trade Organization (WTO), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) or the United Nations. An open letter signed by many organizations, including Consumers International, EDRi (27 European civil rights and privacy NGOs), the Free Software Foundation (FSF), the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), ASIC (French trade association for web 2.0 companies), and the Free Knowledge Institute (FKI), states that “the current draft of ACTA would profoundly restrict the fundamental rights and freedoms of European citizens, most notably the freedom of expression and communication privacy.” [UPDATE] – It seems, SOPA and PIPA were just distractions! while they signed a copyright treaty “ACTA” behind the curtain… US, Australia, Japan, Switzerland, and many EU nations have already signed this secret censorship pact last year in 2011. The Recent country to join the list is – Poland. video.nixxon.net www.stop-acta.info Pls sign this petition – www.avaaz.org

Lawmakers follow Aquino, turn wary over passing freedom of info bill By Gil Cabacungan Philippine Daily Inquirer 4:02 am | Monday, November 7th, 2011 A number of lawmakers belonging to different political parties are now hedging on passing the freedom of information bill, echoing President Benigno Aquino III’s line that it could be “prone to abuse.” House Majority Leader Neptali Gonzales of the Liberal Party, Nueva Ecija Representative Rodolfo Antonino of the National Unity Party and Valenzuela City Representative Rex Gatchalian of the National People’s Coalition said that Congress had to make sure there were “enough safeguards” to ensure that a freedom of information bill “would not be used for mischief against other persons.” The freedom of information bill would allow the public to obtain records of government transactions, meetings and other business, a right enshrined in the Constitution. But for almost a quarter of a century, lawmakers have effectively withheld the people’s enjoyment of this right by failing to pass its implementing guidelines. President Aquino earlier said he had not yet made up his mind whether or not to support any of the freedom of information bills pending in Congress. “Freedom of Information Act sounds so good and noble but at the same time, first of all, you’ll notice that here in this country there’s a tendency to get information and not really utilize it for the proper purposes,” the President had said during an open forum at a gathering of …

www.freeanons.org Flyer img35.imageshack.us thx²dec16anon www.youtube.com Dear People of the World, You may know that some of our brothers and sisters have been kidnapped by the judicial system by the FBI in an ongoing effort to repress anti-censorship movements. Some governments and media outlets have gone as far as calling us ‘cyber terrorists’ for our efforts to expose and fight corruption. Anonymous has witnessed its fellow members being arrested under the oppressive hand of the British, Spanish, Italian, Dutch and American law enforcement agencies. In true dystopian style, these governments have trounced upon not only the rights of these individuals, but the basic rights of all individuals: freedom of speech, freedom of expression, and freedom of association. Anonymous and other cyber liberation groups around the world together will not stand by watching. Those who were arrested believe in a cause, believe in an idea, believe in all of us. We must respond with a real and concentrated effort to redress these arrests. We, as Anonymous, have a very real responsibility to these people, who were jailed fighting for freedom, so we can continue to fight for theirs. It is not only our responsibility to support those Anons in trouble, it is mutually beneficial. By having the backs of those arrested, v& and charged, by fighting those charges, and if we are lucky, by winning that fight, we show others that it is possible to resist, that there are others out there not only …

thefilmarchive.org Desegregation is the process of ending the separation of two groups usually referring to races. This is most commonly used in reference to the United States. Desegregation was long a focus of the American Civil Rights Movement, both before and after the United States Supreme Court’s decision in Brown v. Board of Education, particularly desegregation of the school systems and the military. Racial integration of society was a closely related goal. The African-American Civil Rights Movement (1955–1968) refers to the movements in the United States aimed at outlawing racial discrimination against African Americans and restoring voting rights in Southern states. This article covers the phase of the movement between 1954 and 1968, particularly in the South. By 1966, the emergence of the Black Power Movement, which lasted roughly from 1966 to 1975, enlarged the aims of the Civil Rights Movement to include racial dignity, economic and political self-sufficiency, and freedom from oppression by white Americans. The movement was characterized by major campaigns of civil resistance. During the period 1955–1968, acts of nonviolent protest and civil disobedience produced crisis situations between activists and government authorities. Federal, state, and local governments, businesses, and communities often had to respond immediately to crisis situations that highlighted the inequities faced by African Americans. Forms of protest and/or civil disobedience included …
